20-year-old Muhammet Bertuğ Polatçı became the first champion in the men's category of the Mersin Yenişehir Triathlon, organized for the first time this year by the Yenişehir Municipality and the Turkish Triathlon Federation, and 28-year-old Aslı Simay Yazıcı became the first champion in the women's category. 80 athletes competed in the standard and sprint categories.

Mersin Yenişehir Triathlon, which was held for the first time this year, was held in a hot weather above seasonal normals. Young athletes took the lead in both the standard category of the races and the sprint category.

Yenişehir Triathlon witnessed races in Standard Distance Men, Standard Distance Women, Sprint Distance Men, Sprint Distance Women categories.

The races started at 09:00 with the triathletes sailing from the beach next to the Marina. The triathletes covered 750 meters in one lap in the sprint category and 2 laps of 750 meters in the standard category.

The triathletes who completed the swimming track entered the change stations and got on the bikes as soon as they got out of the sea.

In the cycling section, triathletes pedaled 2 laps of 10 kilometers in the sprint category and 4 tours of 10 kilometers in the standard category. In the running section, triathletes ran 2 laps of 2500 meters in the sprint category and 4 laps of 2500 meters in the standard category.

The first champions of Mersin Yenişehir Triathlon were 20-year-old Muhammet Bertuğ Polatçı in the men's category and 28-year-old Aslı Simay Yazıcı in the women's category.

In the men's category, 35-year-old Zülfü Karabulut came in second, 18-year-old Enes Kızılcık came in third, and 33-year-old Yılmaz Halis Dörtlemez came in fourth. While 42-year-old Işıl Tekcan came second in the women's category, the other athletes in this category did not complete the course.

 

16- 17-Year-Old YOUTH COMPETITIONS, MAKING A GRADE

In the Mersin Yenişehir Triathlon sprint category, 22-year-old Emirhan Altıntaş became the first in men, 17-year-old Mehmet Fatih Davran came second and 16-year-old Hakan Tunç came third. Melike Yılmaz, 17, became the winner of the sprint women's category.

ATHLETES: THE ROUTE WAS VERY BEAUTIFUL

Mersin Yenişehir Triathlon men's standard category winner Muhammet Bertuğ Polatçı said, "It was a very nice track. We had difficulties in running due to the hot weather. If the organization continues, I would like to race in Mersin next year."

Zülfü Karabulut, the runner-up in the men's standard category, also evaluated the race with the words "It is a really beautiful track. It is a track that is good enough to hold a world championship".

Congratulating the athletes at the finish line, Yenişehir Mayor Abdullah Özyiğit said, "As Yenişehir Municipality, we will continue to host the triathlon. We want to host this organization for many years to come. We aim to train our own triathletes one day. Our young athletes competed here today. Our athletes like the track. "It also made us happy. Mersin is a really beautiful city. Our athletes also competed in this beautiful city, swimming in the clean sea and running in greenery. The energy of the Federation motivated us. I believe we did the right thing."

Mersin Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Forum Mersin and Spor Toto also contributed to the Mersin Yenişehir Triathlon organized by the Yenişehir Municipality and the Turkish Triathlon Federation with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
